My Story – Andy Scott
Andy Scott, Group Sales Director at Your Legal Costs.
Leadership grounded in energy, drive, and a clear sense of purpose has been central to shaping over 30 years of sales success – a journey that Andy has navigated with focus and intent. Now, he brings that same client-centred approach and commercial insight to help steer the future direction of Your Legal Costs (YLC)
A day in the life
At Your Legal Costs, Andy’s role is all about relationships – but it’s also about results. As Group Sales Director, he leads both business development and service delivery, balancing the front-facing demands of client care with the strategic focus required to grow and sustain the business.
No two days are ever the same. Often on the road, Andy regularly travels across the country to meet with clients or prospective clients face-to-face, whether that’s in law firms, at industry events, or over working lunches. These meetings are essential – not just for relationship building, but for staying close to the challenges and priorities that clients are navigating in real time.
Alongside this, Andy spends time analysing sales performance, reviewing pipeline data, and working closely with the team to identify trends and opportunities. He’s involved in shaping commercial strategies, tracking performance against targets, and fine-tuning service delivery to ensure that what YLC offers continues to meet the evolving needs of its clients.
From leading pitches and onboarding new accounts to coaching colleagues, managing key partnerships, and driving growth initiatives, Andy’s approach is hands-on, proactive, and always anchored in service. He’s known for his clarity, commercial instinct, and commitment to doing things properly – ensuring that clients not only get results, but feel supported at every step.
Early career and sales foundations
Andy studied Human Ecology at the University of Huddersfield after missing the grades required for his first choice degree in Animal Ecology with ambitions of becoming a marine biologist. He then took an unexpected turn into sales – a move that quickly uncovered a natural talent.
His first role was with Red Bull UK covering a patch from Leeds to Newcastle. At just 21, he was selling into local shops and supermarkets long before the energy drink became a household name. Around this time, he interviewed for a sales role in the fishing tackle industry – a dream opportunity that aligned with his lifelong passion. However, lacking direct sales experience at that stage, he wasn’t successful.
Determined to build his skills, Andy joined Canon UK and received intensive training that laid the foundations for his future. His experience expanded further at Richmond Security, later acquired by ADT (Tyco), where he spent many years in a high-performance, high-reward environment as a National Account Manager. Ironically, the fishing tackle company later returned with an offer – but by then, Andy was thriving in corporate sales and firmly established in his career.
How Andy came to Your Legal Costs
Andy’s route into the legal sector is rooted in a long-standing personal connection, originating while working in a bar in Halifax as a teenager. That friendship evolved into a professional opportunity many years later, when the chance to bring his sales expertise to the costs sector emerged.
Since joining almost 15 years ago, Andy has helped shape the business development strategy, enhance client relationships, and contribute to the overall growth trajectory of the business.
Family life and weekends
Andy lives in West Yorkshire with his wife Sharon, who owns two childcare nurseries. They have three children: Josh (23), who serves in the Royal Air Force, Holly (18), studying Sport & Exercise Science at university in Bath; and Jemima (13), who is at school and loves football and especially horses!
Weekends are often spent supporting Jem’s football team on Saturdays and watching Huddersfield Town matches. Sundays are typically reserved for fishing – one of Andy’s lifelong passions – and enjoying time with family around a barbecue (when the weather’s good!).

A passion for fishing
Fishing has been a part of Andy’s life since early childhood, introduced by his father. He’s particularly fond of lure and fly fishing, and his favourite spots include the Menai Straits in Anglesey and the Isle of Man for bass and also Blagdon Lake in North Somerset, which he rates highly for pike.
A standout memory is a fishing trip to Egypt 25 years ago – living under the stars, surrounded by nature. It remains one of his best experiences. If he ever had the opportunity, his dream trip would be to Congo, in search of the Goliath Tigerfish – a rare and elusive catch, albeit in a dangerous setting.
He also enjoys golf (although a better fisherman than a golfer!) and this year has travelled to the Netherlands and the Isle of Man for fishing expeditions. A family holiday to the Algarve is planned for later this summer.
What drives success
Andy believes his strength lies in understanding people. His approach is rooted in active listening and genuine connection – qualities that enable him to build strong relationships and provide clients with the service they truly need. His experience and instincts mean he’s often able to identify solutions quickly, with minimal fuss.
Colleagues describe him as focused, fair, and unwaveringly professional and someone who leads by example.
Looking ahead
Over the next few years, Andy’s ambition is for Your Legal Costs to continue deepening its client relationships, expanding its presence across the legal sector, and investing further in the development of its team. His goal is for the business to be widely recognised as a trusted, go-to partner for legal costs services.
Through a blend of experience, drive, and a grounded, people-first philosophy, Andy continues to make a lasting impact – both within the business and far beyond it.
